George Oikonomou is a Distinguished Engineer at Juniper Networks and chief architect in the field of 5G orchestration, aiming to provide extreme automation to the end-to-end deployment and operation of isolated network slices that empower a variety of modern 5G use cases. The developed software stack includes the O-RAN compliant RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) for the management of the Radio Access Network (RAN) elements, as well as the Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) framework for the overall management of the RAN domain of a mobile network, incorporating advanced algorithms and methods to ensure the quality of the delivered services. Complementary to mobile networks, George has extensive experience in modern software development stacks, cloud-native architectures, software security, machine learning and network optimization. Prior to Juniper Networks, he has worked in architect roles at VMware, Citrix, and Bytemobile, both in R&D and field activities. George holds an M.Sc. (2000) and a B.Sc. (1997) from the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department of the University of Patras.
